The Qatar Diabetes Association has always worked on improving the level of knowledge of the healthcare providers who are in the field of diabetes management and prevention especially due to the fact that diabetes is a major health concern both here in the MENA Region and worldwide and as per the IDF Diabetes Atlas , 537 million adults (1 in 10) were living with diabetes in 2021. This number is expected rise to 643 million by 2030 and 783 million by 2045.

Therefore, the Qatar Diabetes Association in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) , Diabetes In Asia Study Group (DASG)  will organize “Diabetes Comorbidities and Complications" Congress, which will be held on 8-9th November 2024 @ QNCC.

The target audience for the congress will be the Physicians, General Internists, Clinical Pharmacist, Dietitians & Diabetes Educators to attend this important event.

This will be an excellent opportunity for sharing the latest scientific information and data from the prominent speakers and scientists in the field of diabetes technology, research and learn about the latest technological advances for people with diabetes.

As per Qatar National Diabetes Strategy 2016-2022 states that Diabetes is a growing health challenge for Qatar. Where In 2015 it is estimated that 17% of the adult population in Qatar, about 85,000 people has diabetes, compared to 8%of adults globally (SCH, 2015-5).

In addition, it is estimated that if nothing is done there will be 2.5 times increase in diabetes for people between the ages of 35-65 in Qatar by 2045 (SCH, 2015).

Qatar national Diabetes Strategy 2016-2022 has identified the following gaps regarding diabetes Knowledge and education as per the Current Status and Present Situation as follow:

  • Education and empowerment tools are limited and inconsistent
  • Information about diabetes is inconsistent and unclear
  • There are gaps in the workforce and number of professionals specially trained in diabetes care are limited
  • Health care professionals find it difficult to access and share diabetes information

QDA and Scientific Planning Committee identified the previous national needs as high priority educational gaps to be addressed.

We hope that the 2-day conference will help increase awareness of diabetes as a major health crisis and contribute to the prevention, early diagnosis, and effective management of this disease.
